If you were not happy with the item, you need not have taken it. There is nothing broken or damaged except that needed some cleaning. You inspected the item on site yourself and should have raised the issue on the spot. You have every chance to ask questions and check the item, which you did. If you were dissatisfied with it you should have said you didn’t want it instead of taking it and then complain about it.
